The sulfate deterioration for a Type I portland cement (C3A = 11.9 percent) with a C3A / 2S ratio of 7.88 was found to be 2.5 times the deterioration for another Type I portland cement (C3A = 9.3 percent) with a C3S / C2S ratio of 2.57 after 150 days of exposure to an accelerated sulfate test.
